LIXIL Environmental Vision 2050: A Commitment to Zero Carbon and Circular Living

Focusing on three key areas—Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, Water Sustainability, and the Circular Economy—LIXIL aims to lead the way in environmental sustainability and create a better future for generations to come.

Bangkok, Thailand, November 13, 2024 – The environment and sustainability are pressing issues that affect everyone globally, including climate change-related risks of adverse weather patterns such as heatwaves, torrential rains to rising sea levels. In 2015, the world gathered to sign the Paris Agreement, pledging to limit the increase in the global average temperature to less than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. The subsequently adopted Glasgow Climate Pact in 2021, clarified that the 1.5°C figure was no longer a target to be aimed for, but a de facto common goal.
To achieve this, the world community must reduce CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions by forty-five percent by 2030 (compared to 2010) and to net zero by 2050. Nineteen percent of global energy-related CO2 emissions are from direct emissions by the building construction and materials industries, and another eighteen percent are due to indirect emissions from buildings and homes in use.*1
In 2019, LIXIL unveiled its LIXIL Environmental Vision 2050 and declared its commitment to achieving “Zero Carbon and Circular Living,”. As a global leader in water and housing solutions, LIXIL using its reach and scale to focus on three key areas: Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, Water Sustainability, and the Circular Economy.
To realize the LIXIL’s long term Environmental Vision 2050 over the long-term (10 – 30 years) and medium term Science Based Targets (3 – 10 years), LIXIL is embedding its our environmental strategy into the business as a key strategic initiative. This goes beyond simply fulfilling our corporate responsibility to minimize the environmental impact load of our business activities and products but delivering a greater impact on the global environment and society by creating new value in the environmental field with our stakeholders and industry partners.
To support these goals, LIXIL Thailand aims to become a leader in environmental sustainability by reducing Scope 1, 2, and 3 CO2 emissions to net-zero through its business processes, products, and services, while ensuring the sustainable use of water and resources for future generations.

Wiwat Surapatananon, Leader, Thailand, LIXIL Water Technology, stated,
“The property sector plays a vital role in addressing the challenge of environmental sustainability. LIXIL is working closely, with global and local partners and stakeholders, with eco-friendly products and solutions to inspire and encourage architects and designers to prioritize environmental considerations during the specification stage of new buildings. We also seek to comprehensively address builders and developers needs and concerns to meet green building standards and LEED certification, with the use of proven eco-friendly products to reduce water and energy use.”

Wiwat added, “For homeowners, the many options and standards can be overwhelming. We want homeowners to be reassured that they are making informed product choices, without the complexity, that can improve their daily lives and minimize their environmental impact. A great example is the American Standard e-Lite shower toilet can save up to 20% of water consumption, which not only helps conserve water and energy but also enhances the daily user experience, while enhancing their health and well-being.”
Determining the Three Focus Areas for Achieving Our Vision
Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation
LIXIL seeks to achieve net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050 by both striving to reduce the environmental burden of our business processes and providing environmentally friendly products and services. Furthermore, we believe that it is important not only to reduce the CO2 emissions generated directly by LIXIL’s business processes, products, and services, but also to reduce CO2 emissions across our society as a whole.
This long-term target was validated by the Science Based Testing initiative in March 2024, recognizing LIXIL as Japanese building materials industry to receive SBT Net Zero approval for 2050 Zero CO₂ Emissions Target.
We welcome partnerships across the entire Thai property industry, from architects, designers, developers, to property owners, to differentiate their projects by helping meet green building certifications and the national move towards net zero.
Water Sustainability
As a leading company in water technology products such as toilets, kitchen systems, prefabricated bathrooms, and faucets, LIXIL is advancing efforts towards global water sustainability today and for generations to come, so everyone can fully enjoy the benefits of bountiful water.

To this aim, our initiatives are focused on conserving and enhancing the value of water. We are actively pursuing water use efficiency within our business processes, particularly by reducing water consumption at water-stressed sites. Additionally, we contribute to water conservation by offering water-saving products and services for consumers. For example, the American Standard Toilet Acacia Supasleek collection delivers up to 49% water savings and ClickMove™ Technology in our faucets provides 40% water savings through better water volume control, demonstrating our commitment to promoting the responsible use of water.
Circular Economy
LIXIL uses a variety of resources, including metals, timber, resin, and ceramics. We pursue company-wide initiatives for the sustainable use of raw materials and the recycling of resources across all stages of the product lifecycle: from procurement to manufacturing, product use and disposal. We are moving towards circular manufacturing supported by the use of recycled materials and informed product designs to facilitate reuse. Guided by the LIXIL Plastics Action Statement, our initiatives include reducing the amount of, and closing the loop for the plastics we use, and by developing alternative materials.

For example, GROHE brand is part of LIXIL and has successfully designed and created several products based on the Cradle-to-Cradle model, emphasizing recyclability and environmental impact avoidance. This dedication has led to certification at the gold level of LEED (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design), an international green building standard.
